CITE Hosts Inaugural Technology Entrepreneurship Boot Camp

March 26, 2007

The Center for Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship (CITE), a joint initiative of the College of Business and the College of Engineering at UTSA, hosted its inaugural boot camp on Friday, March 23, 2007.

Former Osteobiologics President and CEO Fred Dinger headlined a list of distinguished speakers and panelists. Other participants included College of Business Advisory Council member David Spencer, president of Mandelbrot Ventures, Inc.; Janet Campbell, CEO of Seno Medical; Jay Campion, co-founder and managing director of Access Venture Partners; Joseph Picken, executive director of The University of Dallas Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship; James Poage, president and CEO of the San Antonio Technology Accelerator Initiative (SATAI); and Cory Hallam, director of CITE.

The day-long event featured presentations on fundamental entrepreneurship topics including opportunity identification, business plan basics, intellectual property and the UT system, intro to business law and funding a technology start-up.

According to Campbell, "Events such as these are important to UTSA and the San Antonio community because it gives people who are trying to find information on entrepreneurship a forum in which to find necessary resources. You also get to hear real life stories of entrepreneurs." Echoing her comments, Campion stated, "This forum allows entrepreneurs a chance to meet venture capitalists and to see what it takes to take an idea to market."

The UTSA Center for Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship focuses on fostering the growth of entrepreneurs in both faculty and students through a process of education, experiences, resources and support. "If you've got an idea that is remotely of interest, go see Corey Hallam—he'll either set you straight, or he'll give it legs," said Spencer. Cory Hallam can be reached at 458-6595.
