Statistical Consulting Center Opens in the College of Business
—Oct. 16, 2006
The Department of Management Science and Statistics has established a Statistical Consulting Center in the College of
Business to provide statistical services to UTSA faculty, staff and students, as well as researchers in the community. The
center will be staffed by doctoral students in the college's new Ph.D. in Applied Statistics degree program. Faculty in the
department will provide additional expertise as needed.
Stephanie Cano, senior lecturer, will direct the new center. Cano previously managed a similar consulting
center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her Ph.D. in biostatistics.
The Statistical Consulting Center will provide assistance with experimental study design, sample size selection, data analysis,
and statistical computing.
"As UTSA moves forward in its mission to achieve Tier 1 research status, the center will provide much needed statistical
support for student and faculty researchers as well as a training ground for our students," said Nandini Kannan,
chair of the Department of Management Science and Statistics.
In addition to statistical services, the center will also offer non-credit short courses on data analysis using different
statistical software packages as well as Regression, Reliability and Experimental Design.
The center, located in BB 4.02.68, is open for walk-in consulting Monday and Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. UTSA faculty, staff
and students may avail themselves of the services free of charge for 1 hour per week (up to a maximum of 10 hours during
a semester). Longer-term projects will be charged an hourly fee. For questions or additional information, please e-mail the
center at scc@utsa.edu.
