SBC Executive to Present UTSA College of Business Frost Bank Distinguished Lecture Oct. 20

Patricia Diaz Dennis, senior vice president and assistant general counsel of SBC Services, Inc., will present the keynote address during The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Business Frost Bank Distinguished Lecture Series at 11 a.m. Thursday,
Oct. 20 in the Richard S. Liu Auditorium in the Business Building. The event is sponsored by the College of Business and is free and open to the public.

Dennis is responsible for all legal advice and assistance in the areas of corporate compliance, procurement, SBC knowledge ventures, real estate and information technology. She was appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate to three federal government positions. Former President Bush appointed her assistant secretary of state for human rights and humanitarian affairs in 1992. President Reagan appointed her, and she served from 1986 until 1989, as a commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission.

She is a member of the California, Texas and District of Columbia bars and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Dennis was recently named chairwoman of the national board of the Girl Scouts of the USA and serves on the boards of directors of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, Entravision Communications Corp., and UST Inc.

Among many honors, Dennis received the 2003 MALDEF Corporate Responsibility Service Award, 2002 Cuban American National Council Leadership Award, 2002 San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame Award—Law, 2001 Association for Women in Communications’ Public Endeavor Award and the 1999 UCLA Latino Alumni Association Alumna of the Year Award.

Born in Santa Rita, New Mexico, she holds a law degree from Loyola University of Los Angeles and an undergraduate degree from the University of California at Los Angeles.

The Frost Bank Distinguished Lecture Series brings prominent business and community leaders to UTSA to share their knowledge and experiences with students and others in the university and business community. The lecture series, which began in 1988, presents a forum for business leaders and academics to share their experiences in business so that students can broaden our understanding of the business world and the individuals who lead it.
