—May 12, 2005
Two faculty members in the College of Business have recently received new administrative assignments. “I wish to
congratulate both of these individuals as they undertake these new roles and responsibilities,” said Dean Lynda de
la Viña. “I wish them the best.”
Martha
Fasci, associate dean for the Downtown Campus, has been promoted to assistant vice president for extended services
to begin June 1, 2005. Fasci is an associate professor of accounting and will continue to teach for the Department of Accounting.
She is also a member of the cross disciplinary COB team focused on Latin America and Mexico.
Fasci served as the first associate dean for the Downtown Campus in 1998 and structured the Business Scholars Program
that recently won the Southwest Business Dean's Innovation Award. She was honored this year with the Richard S. Howe Excellence
in Service to Undergraduate Students Award and was recognized as one of the "Outstanding Women Leaders" in Hispanic
Business magazine.
Don
Lien has been named associate dean for international affairs in the College of Business. Lien joined the UTSA faculty
in 2001 from the University of Kansas and is a professor of financial economics. Since that time he has advanced from interim
director to director of International Business Programs in the college. Don has been instrumental in the expansion of COB-China
programs that now include five universities in China as well as relationships with the Bank of Beijing and the Bank of China.
Other international programs include direct exchanges with the University of Düsseldorf, Tongji University
in Shanghai, and IPAG in Nice, France. Most recently, he was named the top finance researcher in the world. The rankings,
provided by the SIRCA financial ranking system, were based on his research from 2000-2005 in the top 17 finance journals.
Lien's appointment is effective June 1, 2005.
